Description
The Nakhchivan State National Drama Theater named after Jalil Mammadguluzade, located in Nakhchivan, is an important cultural institution of Azerbaijan. Founded in 1883 by the efforts of playwright Eynali bey Sultanov, the theater began its activity with the production of Jalil Mammadguluzade's work. In 1922, it received the status of the State Drama Theater, which was a significant stage in its development.
The theater is famous for the diversity of its repertoire, including works by both Azerbaijani and world classics. Plays by such outstanding playwrights as Huseyn Javid and Jafar Jabbarli have been staged on its stage. During the Second World War, performances inspired by patriotic works of famous authors were staged here.
In 1965, the theater was named after Jalil Mammadguluzade, and its building, designed by architect Hasan Majidov, is an architectural landmark. In 2012, the restoration of the building was completed, which allowed the theater to continue its activities in updated conditions.
