Description
The Baku Zoological Park, opened in 1928, is the oldest zoo in Azerbaijan and occupies a significant place in the cultural and environmental life of Baku. Spread over an area of 4.25 hectares, the zoo offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience a variety of flora and fauna from around the world. Buy tickets on our website and plan your visit in advance — this is a convenient way to avoid queues and enjoy all the delights of the zoo.
Initially, the zoo was opened in the Lunacharsky Park (now Nizami Park). In 1942, on the basis of the evacuated Rostov Zoo, a new zoological park was created, which opened in 1945. Over the years, the zoo moved several times to different areas of the city, until in 1985 it settled on its current territory in the Narimanov district of Baku.
Since 2017, on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the IDEA Public Association, a large-scale reconstruction of the zoo began. In 2021, the Baku Zoo reopened its doors after a significant expansion and infrastructure upgrade. Now its territory is 4.25 hectares, which allows you to accommodate more animals and improve their living conditions.
The Baku Zoological Park is famous for its unique collections of animals. Pink flamingos, which have become the symbol of the zoo, attract special attention. In the early 90s of the last century, these birds were brought to the zoo by city residents in a half-dead state. Thanks to the efforts of zoo workers, about 28 flamingos live here today.
Visitors can familiarize themselves with the work schedule and event poster on our website. This will allow you to plan your visit as efficiently as possible and not miss interesting events and demonstration animal feedings.
