Lankaran State Drama Theater

Founded in the late 19th century, the Lankaran State Drama Theatre is an important cultural institution in Azerbaijan. The theatre played a significant role in the development of national theatre art thanks to the efforts of such outstanding educators as Mirza Aziz Aliyev and Teymur bey Bayramalibekov. Since its first production in 1884, the theatre has continued to delight audiences with a diverse repertoire that includes works by both Azerbaijani and foreign playwrights. 

Classical and modern plays such as Samad Vurgun’s Vagif, Mirza Fatali Akhundov’s The Vizier of Lankaran Khan and William Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale come to life on the theatre’s stage. The theatre is also famous for staging works by contemporary authors such as Elchin’s Mahmud and Maryam.
